COVID update in Illinois today: IL reports 3,866 new coronavirus cases, 21 deaths as Cook County releases more vaccine appointments

CHICAGO (WLS) – Illinois public health officials reported 3,866 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 21 associated deaths on Friday.

There have been 1,296,381 total cases of COVID, including 21,630 deaths in the state since the pandemic began.

Illinois, Indiana to discontinue Johnson & Johnson vaccine after reports of blood clots

On Thursday night, 2,058 patients in Illinois were reported to have been hospitalized with COVID-19. Of these, 468 patients were in intensive care and 205 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

In the last 24 hours, laboratories have reported testing 93,602 specimens for a total of 21,571,023 since the pandemic began.

The seven-day preliminary positive test nationwide between April 9-15 is 4.9%.

A total of 9,777,825 doses of vaccine were delivered to suppliers in Illinois, including Chicago.

A total of 7,779,290 vaccines have been administered in Illinois since Thursday night. The seven-day average of daily vaccines is 129,664 doses. 166,885 doses were reported in Illinois on Thursday.

10,000 COVID-19 vaccines available Friday

Cook County Health will release 10,000 COVID-19 vaccines for the first dose on Friday.

The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines will be available for appointment Friday at noon, according to Cook County Health.

Appointments will be available to anyone 16 years of age and older, the agency said.

Sixteen-year-olds must register at a Pfizer location and be accompanied by a guardian’s parent, health officials said. The Pfizer vaccine is the only dose approved for anyone under 18 years of age.

Appointments can be scheduled at 833-308-1988 or vaccine.cookcountyil.gov.

Deaths reported on Friday include:

– Bureau County: 1 woman aged 80 years
– Cook County: 1 man for 40 years, 2 men for 70 years, 2 men for 80 years
– DuPage County; 1 woman of 50 years, 1 man of 90 years
– Henry County: 1 man 80, 1 woman 90

– Jefferson County: 1 woman from the 90s
– Kane County: 1 man of 70 years, 1 woman of 90 years
– Lake County: 1 woman of 70, 1 man of 80 years
– LaSalle County: 1 man aged 70 years
– Madison County: 1 woman from the 90s
– McDonough County: 1 man aged 80 years
– Tazewell County: 1 man of 40 years, 1 man of 50 years
– Will County: 1 man of 60 years
