Coronavirus in Illinois: 2,765 new cases of COVID, 28 deaths, 140,000 vaccinations
Illinois health officials reported 2,765 confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus and 28 additional deaths in the last day, along with more than 140,000 vaccinations.
New coronavirus cases reported Wednesday bring the state’s total to 1,309,552 cases since the pandemic began. The 28 additional deaths increased the total death toll to 21,722, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
In the last 24 hours, 81,133 coronavirus samples have been returned to state laboratories, with more than 21.9 million now performed during the pandemic.

More than 700 Naperville students were quarantined last week, the data show
More than 700 students in a Naperville school district were quarantined last week, district data show Wednesday.
According to the Naperville Community Unit’s 203 COVID Dashboard, 707 students – including 424 high school students, 87 high school students and 196 elementary school children – along with two staff members were quarantined in the week of April 12. .

Cook County offers access to Tinley Park, Matteson’s mass vaccination sites
Cook County is now offering COVID vaccine access to its sites in Tinley Park and Matteson as part of a new pilot program to combat an “on-demand plateau,” the county health department said Wednesday.
Anyone interested in receiving a vaccine that is not already scheduled will be allowed to register on-site Wednesday through Saturday at the two mass vaccination locations, the department said.
The sites will be open from 8:30 to 17:30 Wednesday to Saturday for walk-ins and those with appointments.

COVID-19 cases at Chicago suburban school send 147 students into quarantine
Health officials are seeing an increase in the positive number of COVID-19 cases as high schools in the Chicago area resume personal learning, but the origin of the cases varies by school.
There are currently 12 active cases at John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, according to school officials. They said 147 students are in quarantine.
“Everyone who reported positive infections told us that they are with groups of children without masks in the basements or in dining places, such as a sandwich shop or something like that,” said director Gordie Sisson.
Indiana reaches a higher level of risk in the Chicago travel order, but is not yet listed
Indiana will soon be labeled a state at higher risk on the Chicago travel order, requiring a quarantine or negative test before arrival for unvaccinated travelers if the state’s case rate does not drop soon.

Oswego East HS goes to distance learning after at least 15 confirmed COVID cases

Lori Lightfoot is waiting for fans for the Bulls, Blackhawks until the end of the season
In a press conference on Tuesday morning, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot expressed optimism that fans will return to the United Center for Bulls and Blackhawks games by the end of each team’s 2020-21 season.
“We’re talking to both the Bulls and the Blackhawks. I think they have very solid plans,” Lightfoot said. “But those plans were launched at a time when we were growing. Chicago travel order: 26 states now at higher risk, changing testing requirements
Chicago on Tuesday updated its emergency travel order, detailing where states are currently located and setting guidelines on whether travelers should be quarantined or tested negative for COVID-19 prior to their arrival in Town.
The order now includes 26 states, as well as Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia, below an “orange level” that requires a quarantine or a negative test before arrival before coming to Chicago. The lower “yellow level” includes 23. In which states it falls depends on the adjusted case rate for the population.
Also starting this week, those who travel from an orange list and cannot take a test before arriving in Chicago can use an airport test site or another test site on arrival, officials said, adding that those who are tested on arrival must be quarantined until they receive a negative result.

Navy Pier announces phased reopening, holiday fireworks
Following the temporary closure of Labor Day, Navy Pier will begin a gradual reopening in late April, Chicago’s iconic attraction said.
The initial phase, which begins on April 30, restores public access to the following: parking lots at Navy Pier, Polk Bros Park, Peoples Energy Welcome Pavilion, north and south docks of the pier, Pier Park, select walks and attractions, East End Plaza, tours of boats and cruises, the new Sable Hotel and selected restaurants with limited capacity.
In the reopening celebration, Navy Pier will host a 10-minute fireworks show every Saturday in May at 9 p.m.
