COVID NYC Update: Mayor Blasio Says Target to Vaccinate 5 Million NYers by June, Javits Center website begins 24/7

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) – New York City’s goal is to fully vaccinate 5 million New Yorkers by June.

That’s what Mayor Bill de Blasio said Saturday afternoon as he celebrated a new vaccination site in the Bronx.

“The Bronx will help pave the way, pave the way for the recovery of New York City,” he said.

When the Co-Op City site reaches its peak, de Blasio says 1,000 will be vaccinated every day in the community.

“What a difference that will be,” he said.

According to the mayor, Co-Op City is one of the first places where vaccinations are made for seniors at home.

“Now that we have the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, we can reach the elderly at home,” he said.

50 elderly people at home have already been vaccinated in Co-Op City.

The number of vaccinated New Yorkers is now over 3 million.

Early Saturday morning, the Javits Center began accepting appointments non-stop in an effort to vaccinate more New Yorkers.

The state-administered vaccination facility went into operation 24 hours a day.

Made possible by the Johnson & Johnson vaccine approved last Saturday, the doses began arriving in New York during the week.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is unique, making it easy to vaccinate people quickly.

Many were lucky enough to have a meeting on Saturday morning.

There was also promising news from the mayor, who will make an announcement about high school – and when he could return to personal learning – sometime next week.

The news comes as positivity rates in the area continue to decline slowly.

Middle schools returned last week.

The mayor says the goal is for all students to return for personal learning, one-day training, five days a week for the beginning of the next school year in September.
