COVID in MN: States Launch New Enriched Vaccine Data Dashboard – WCCO

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The state of Minnesota on Tuesday launched a new, more comprehensive COVID-19 vaccination scoreboard. Meanwhile, Minnesota health officials reported another 1,335 cases of the virus and 13 more deaths.

The dashboard was produced by Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) and MDH. The dashboard is designed in an easy-to-use way, with four tabs at the top, keeping a close track.

“Today, Minnesota launched its new COVID dashboard on the state’s response site,” said MNIT Commissioner Tarek Tomes. “This dashboard shines an important date in shaping and promoting the best possible results.”

From that summary, more than 144,000 people have received at least one dose of vaccine, to whom it is vaccinated – 2.6% of the population of Minnesota right now. There is a map of the counties showing Mahnomen and Olmstead County, with the highest percentage of their populations receiving a hit.

The scoreboard provides more specific information on the administration and distribution of vaccination, how many doses were shipped to state health care providers (329,450) and how many total doses were promised by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (541,100).

“We are committed to making sure Minnesota people know how much vaccine is coming to our state and how many of our neighbors get their shots when it’s their turn,” said Minnesota Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm. “Transparency is a fundamental principle of our vaccine launch. We are excited to provide Minnesota with this vital information as the light at the end of the tunnel becomes brighter. ”

According to the dashboard, more than 152,000 doses of vaccine have been administered in the state since January 9, with nearly 7,400 people completing the two-shot vaccine series. The state used about a third of its total doses.

“This dashboard gives Minnesota transparency and promotes confidence that COVID-19 vaccine doses are constantly arriving in Minnesota, and the fires are in the arms of our health care workers and most vulnerable families and friends,” said MNIT Commissioner Tarek Tomes. “It will help Minnesota visualize our progress toward ending this pandemic once and for all.”

The data show that the doses of vaccine given have increased every week since mid-December. From 4,677 doses administered in the week of December 13 to 63,727 doses administered in the week of January 3. The data also show daily vaccine administration.

However, less than 0.1% of people in Minnesota completed the series of vaccines and less than 3% had at least one stroke.

COVID-19 vaccination data can be used to monitor immunization coverage at the state and county levels and progress toward national, state and local coverage targets. The data can also help identify populations at risk and encourage public health actions and policies aimed at increasing immunization. The data cannot tell us why people are not vaccinated. Some people may not have access to the vaccine, and others may choose not to vaccinate. It is also possible that some people have received vaccinations that are not registered in the MIIC, such as those that have been vaccinated in another state “, it is shown in a note of the dashboard.

The site also shows that 13% of vaccinated people were 65 years of age or older, a lower percentage than in other states. It’s all part of the Phase 1A plan that Minnesota health officials hope to complete by the end of this month.

“In this first phase, we gave priority to health workers and people in qualified healthcare institutions and assisted living,” explained Kris Ehresmann, director of MDH Epidemiology. “We do not retain any vaccines. If we receive 100 doses, we distribute 100 doses. ”

The federal government is now urging states to vaccinate anyone 65 or older, but the directive is being questioned by the Minnesota Department of Health. There are still no extra doses to go along with that plan.

As the number of coronavirus deaths approaches 400,000 nationwide, the Trump administration unexpectedly announced Tuesday that it will stop retaining the second dose of vaccine. That practically doubles the supply. It’s the same approach that President-elect Joe Biden announced on Monday.

The CDC says nearly 9 million Americans received the first doses of the vaccine. This is only about a third of the more than 25 million doses distributed.
