COVID cases are rising, now accounting for a third of all cases in Washtenaw County

ANN TREE – COVID-19 cases have risen at the University of Michigan, now accounting for 34 percent of all cases in Washtenaw County, university officials said Tuesday.

In the update, the officials also said that 11 off-campus residences are now in quarantine due to positive cases or in-person meetings that took place during the recommendation of the residence school, which expires on Sunday, February at 23:59. 7. This includes university students, graduates and professionals living on and off campus.

The recommendation was requested by the Washtenaw County Health Department, as several new cases of the highly contagious new B117 COVID-19 on campus have been reported. All sports at UM have been discontinued since January 23 due to outbreaks in the department.

The number of quarantined homes has doubled since Saturday due to new positive cases and potential exposures.

Those in quarantine receive pop-up tests on the fifth day of the 14 days of isolation and all students are encouraged to be tested for the virus every week, even if they are asymptomatic.

According to the UM COVID scoreboard, the university reported 438 positive cases in the last 14 days and 36,065 tests were administered in the same period. According to preliminary data, the positivity rate increased during the week starting January 31 to 14.3%, compared to 1.3% in the previous week.
