COVID-19 vaccine: 1.4 million vaccinations will reach Texas vaccination sites, says DSHS

The Texas State Department of Health Services (DSHS) said 1.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine will arrive at vaccination sites this week.

It comes a week after the winter frost paralyzed the state, left millions without electricity and caused delays in vaccine shipments.

Even with the winter storm, DSHS added that providers administered a total of 4.5 million doses of vaccines. Of these doses, 3.1 million people received the first dose and 1.4 million people are now fully vaccinated with both doses.

DSHS also assured that all vaccines this week for federally supported sites in Houston and North Texas have arrived.

The department’s associate commissioner said the FDA is scheduled to meet later this week to make recommendations on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

“By this weekend, we could have a third licensed vaccine in the United States, and that would be another huge development in accelerating our vaccination efforts,” said DSHS Associate Commissioner Imelda Garcia.
