COVID-19 vaccinations rescheduled by Wayne County Public Health Division due to lack of supply

DETROIT – The Wayne County Public Health Division is scheduled to reschedule vaccinations for Tuesday, Jan. 19 and Wednesday, Jan. 20, due to a small number of vaccines received from Michigan, according to county health officials.

Individuals with appointments for the first dose of immunizations currently scheduled for both days will be notified individually of their new appointment by the Wayne County Department of Public Health.

The rescheduled vaccinations will take place at the new Wayne County vaccination site at Schoolcraft College’s Vista Tech Center at 18600 Haggerty Road in Livonia.

The rescheduling affects approximately 1,400 people, mainly health workers, first responders and key workers who are part of phase 1A on the list of vaccination priorities.

People scheduled to receive the second dose or those who will be vaccinated at a local hospital, nursing home or long-term care unit are not affected.

Wayne County needs to reschedule and relocate its vaccination site as it has run out of supplies of the COVID-19 vaccine produced by Pfizer.

According to Wayne County, the state has stopped supplying him with the Pfizer vaccine for the first doses and is currently providing the Wayne County Public Health Division with only the Moderna vaccine for the first new doses.

“Modern vaccine doses should be treated differently from the Pfizer vaccine. The county will not receive the supply of the Moderna vaccine from the state until Tuesday, which makes it too late to manage the vaccinations scheduled for that day or Wednesday “, it is shown in a statement from Wayne County regarding the lack of supply.

Wayne County vaccinations for Phase 1A and Phase 1B essential workers will resume Thursday at the VistaTech Center at Schoolcraft College.

Additional vaccination sites will be announced as more vaccines become available in the state of Michigan, the county said.

“I ran out of Pfizer vaccine on Saturday afternoon,” said Dr. Mouhanad Hammami, Wayne County’s chief health strategist. “We know this is frustrating and we apologize for the inconvenience. Our team is working hard to vaccinate as many residents as possible, but the lack of supply in the state of Michigan remains a challenge. ”

Wayne County is currently vaccinating health care workers, SMEs and key employees in Phases 1A and 1B.

Seniors over 65 or older should schedule a vaccine through their health care system, not the county health department.

K-12 teachers will receive vaccinations through their school districts in partnership with Wayne RESA.

Other Phase 1B groups must register online or through their employers to request a vaccination program from the Wayne County Department of Public Health.
