Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Agency for Health and Human Services, with data until April 8.

Vaccination progress:

  • Nearly 2.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine were delivered to the region and approximately 2 million were registered as administered. This number includes both county residents and those working in San Diego County.
  • Of those vaccinated to date, more than 652,000 county residents, or 24.3% of San Diegans aged 16 and over, are completely immunized.
  • In total, almost 1.12 million residents in the county received at least one photo of the two-dose vaccine. This represents 41.7% of those eligible.
  • Those who receive the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine are added to the total of fully vaccinated San Diegans.
  • The difference between the doses given and those used in a vaccine is about what is expected to be given in the next seven days and the doses to be entered into the registration system.

State values:

  • The state-adjusted adjusted case rate, the San Diego region, is currently 5.8 cases per 100,000 residents (as of April 6), and the region is in the Orange Tier or Tier 3.
  • Currently, the percentage of testing positivity is 2.3%, placing the county in level 3 or Orange level.
  • The value of the county’s health equity, which analyzes the positivity of testing for the areas with the lowest health conditions, is 2.6% and is also in the Orange or Tier 3 level.

Cases, hospitalizations and admissions to the ICU:

  • 202 COVID-19 cases were reported to the county on April 8. The total for the region is now 272,696.
  • 14,952 or 5.5% of all cases required hospitalization.
  • 1,664 or 0.6% of all cases and 11.1% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • Eight new deaths from COVID-19 were reported on April 8. The total for the region is 3,600.
  • Seven men and a woman died between January 5 and January 9.
  • Of the people who died, one was 80 years old or older, three were 70 years old, two were 60 years old, one was 50 years old and one was 30 years old.
  • Six had underlying medical conditions and two had a pending medical history.
