Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Agency for Health and Human Services, with data until April 7.
Vaccination progress:
- More than 2.1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been delivered to the region and more than 1.9 million have been registered. This number includes both county residents and those working in San Diego County.
- Of those vaccinated so far, more than 642,000 residents in the county, or 23.9% of San Diegans aged 16 and over, are completely immunized.
- Overall, nearly 1.1 million people in the county received at least one photo of the two-dose vaccine. This represents 40.8% of those eligible.
- Those who receive the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine are added to the total of fully vaccinated San Diegans.
- The difference between the doses given and those used in a vaccine is about what is expected to be given in the next seven days and the doses to be entered into the registration system.

State values:
- The state-adjusted case rate, calculated by the state, is currently 5.8 cases per 100,000 residents (as of April 6), and the region is in the Orange Tier or Tier 3.
- Currently, the percentage of test positivity is 2.3%, placing the county in level 3 or Orange level.
- The value of the county’s health equity, which analyzes the positivity of testing for the areas with the lowest health conditions, is 2.6% and is also in the Orange or Tier 3 level.
- All three values place the county in the Orange or Tier 3 level for activities.
- The California Department of Public Health evaluates counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, April 13th.
Community outbreaks:
- Three new outbreaks were confirmed on April 7: one in a commercial setting, one in a grocery / retail store and one in a commercial setting.
- In the last seven days (April 1 to April 7), 18 community outbreaks have been confirmed.
- The number of Community outbreaks remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.
- A community outbreak is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in a setting and in people from different households in the last 14 days.
Testing:
- 16,596 tests were reported to the county on April 7, and the percentage of new positive cases was 2%.
- The average continuous 14-day percentage of positive cases is 2.3%. The target is less than 8.0%.
- The daily average of 7 days of tests is 12,333.
Cases, hospitalizations and admissions to the ICU:
- 300 COVID-19 cases were reported to the county on April 7. The total for the region is now 272,494.
- 14,951 or 5.5% of all cases required hospitalization.
- 1,660 or 0.6% of all cases and 11.1% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.
Deaths:
- Four new COVID-19 deaths were reported on April 7. The total of the region is 3,592.
- Three women and a man died between March 16 and April 7.
- Of the people who died, three were 70 years old and one was 50 years old.
- Three had underlying medical conditions and one did not.
