Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Agency for Health and Human Services, with data until December 27.

ICU capacity and order of stay at home:

  • The current ICU capacity for the Southern California region is now 0.0% and will be updated daily by the state.
  • Regional home stay order it remains in force and prohibits gatherings of any size with people from other households and adds restrictions for several sectors.
  • The order will remain in force until the capacity of the UCI region reaches or exceeds 15%.

Community outbreaks:

  • No new community outbreaks were confirmed on December 27.
  • Ten new community outbreaks were confirmed on December 26: six in business settings, two in healthcare settings, one in emergency services and one in a community organization.
  • Nine new community outbreaks were confirmed on December 25: four in business settings, two in healthcare settings, two in faith-based agency settings, and one in a distribution warehouse.
  • Fourteen new community outbreaks were confirmed on 24 December: three in business settings, three in healthcare settings, three in faith-based agency settings, one in a care / preschool / childcare setting, one in a care setting. one preschool setting, one in a distribution warehouse one, in a restaurant and one in a hotel / resort / spa.
  • In the last seven days (December 21 – December 27), 59 community outbreaks have been confirmed.
  • The number of Community outbreaks remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.
  • A community outbreak is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in a setting and in people from different households in the last 14 days.

testing:

  • 18,972 tests were reported to the county on December 27, and the percentage of new cases confirmed by the laboratory was 9%.
  • The average continuous 14-day percentage of positive cases is 10.4%. The target is less than 8.0%.
  • The daily average of 7 days of tests is 23,668.
  • People at higher risk of COVID-19 who are with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should be tested. Nurses and essential workers should also receive a test, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are severely affected. Those who have recently returned from travel or who have attended holiday meetings are also urged to be tested.

Cases:

  • 1,751 new cases were reported to the county on December 27. The total for the region is now 147,530.
  • 5,743 or 3.9% of all cases required hospitalization.
  • 1,201 or 0.8% of all cases and 20.9% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

deaths:

  • Two new COVID-19 deaths were reported to the county on December 27. The total for the region is now 1,404.
  • Two men died between December 20 and December 21, and their ages ranged from the mid-1930s to the late 1960s.
  • Both had underlying medical conditions.
  • Twenty new deaths through COVID-19 were reported to the county on December 24.
  • Six women and 14 men died between December 18 and December 24, and their ages ranged from the mid-1950s to the mid-1990s.
  • Seventeen had underlying medical conditions and one did not. Two have a pending medical history.
