Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Agency for Health and Human Services, with data until February 1, 2021.

State values:

  • The state-adjusted case rate in San Diego County is currently 42.5 cases per 100,000 residents, and the region is at the Purple or Tier 1 level.
  • The percentage of test positivity is 10.5%, placing the county in level 1 or purple level.
  • The value of the county’s health equity, which analyzes the positivity of testing for the areas with the lowest health conditions, is 14% and is in Purple or Level 1. This value does not move counties to more restrictive levels, but it is necessary to advance at a less restrictive level.
  • The California Department of Public Health evaluates counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, February 9th.

Community outbreaks:

  • Four outbreaks were confirmed on 1 February: three in business settings and one in a distribution warehouse.
  • In the last seven days (January 26 to February 1), 57 community outbreaks have been confirmed.
  • The number of Community outbreaks remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.
  • A community outbreak is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in a setting and in people from different households in the last 14 days.

Testing:

  • 9,955 tests were reported to the county on February 1, and the percentage of new positive cases was 9%.
  • The average continuous percentage of 14 days of positive cases is 8%. The target is less than 8.0%.
  • The daily average of 7 days of tests is 18,691.
  • People at higher risk of COVID-19 who are with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should be tested. Nurses and essential workers should also receive a test, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are severely affected. Those who have recently returned from travel are also urged to be tested.

Cases, hospitalizations and admissions to the ICU:

  • 926 cases were reported to the county on February 1. The last time the total number of cases per day was below 1,000 was November 29, when 959 cases were reported. The total for the region is now 240,050.
  • 10,255 or 4.3% of all cases required hospitalization.
  • 1,464 or 0.6% of all cases and 14.3% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • 10 new deaths from COVID-19 were reported on February 1. The region totals 2,629.
  • Seven men and three women died between January 17 and January 30.
  • Of the 10 new deaths reported that day, four people who died were 80 or older, five were 70 and one was 60.
  • They all had underlying medical conditions.
