Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Agency for Health and Human Services, with data until February 9, 2021.
State values:
- The state-adjusted, state-calculated case rate in San Diego is currently 34.2 cases per 100,000 residents, and the region is in Purple Tier or Tier 1.
- The percentage of test positivity is 9.1%, placing the county in level 1 or purple level.
- The value of county health equity, which analyzes the positivity of testing for areas with the lowest health conditions, is 12.1% and is in Purple or Level 1. This value does not move counties to more restrictive levels, but must advance to a less restrictive level.
- The California Department of Public Health evaluates counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, February 16th.
Community outbreaks:
- Nine community outbreaks were confirmed on February 9: four in business, two in construction, one in a faith-based agency, one in a government setting, and one in a business setting.
- In the last seven days (February 3 – February 9), 70 community outbreaks have been confirmed.
- The number of Community outbreaks remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.
- A community outbreak is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in a setting and in people from different households in the last 14 days.
Testing:
- 19,461 tests were reported to the county on February 9, and the percentage of new positive cases was 4%.
- The average continuous 14-day percentage of positive cases is 6.5%. The target is less than 8.0%.
- The daily average of 7 days of tests is 18,772.
- People at higher risk of COVID-19 who are with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should be tested. Nurses and essential workers should also receive a test, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are severely affected. Those who have recently returned from travel are also urged to be tested.
Cases, hospitalizations and admissions to the ICU:
- 810 cases were reported to the county on February 9. The total for the region is now 248,861.
- 11,011 or 4.4% of all cases required hospitalization.
- 1,529 or 0.6% of all cases and 13.9% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.
Deaths:
- Fifty-one deaths from COVID-19 were reported on February 9. The total of the region is 2,904.
- Sixteen women and 35 men died between January 9 and February 8.
- Of the 51 new deaths reported today, 17 people who died were 80 years old or older, 12 people were 70 years old, 12 people were 60 years old, eight people were 50 years old and two people were 40 years old.
- Forty-eight had underlying medical conditions, not one and two had a pending medical history.
