Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Agency for Health and Human Services, with data until January 6, 2021.
ICU capacity and order of stay at home:
- The current availability of the intensive care unit (ICU) bed for the Southern California region is 0.0% and will be updated daily by the state.
- Regional home stay order it is in force and prohibits meetings of any size with people from other households and adds restrictions for several sectors.
- The order will last until the ICU availability of the region meets or exceeds 15%.
Community outbreaks:
- Eight new community outbreaks were confirmed on January 6: three in business settings, one in a care / preschool / child care setting, one in a distribution warehouse, one in a faith-based agency setting , one in a government setting and one in a medical setting.
- In the last seven days (31 December to 6 January), 38 Community outbreaks have been confirmed.
- The number of Community outbreaks remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.
- A community outbreak is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in a setting and in people from different households in the last 14 days.
testing:
- 33,491 tests were reported to the county on January 6, and the percentage of new cases confirmed by the laboratory was 11%.
- The average continuous 14-day percentage of positive cases is 13.8%. The target is less than 8.0%.
- The daily average of 7 days of tests is 23,719.
- People at higher risk of COVID-19 who are with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should be tested. Nurses and essential workers should also receive a test, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or who live in communities that are severely affected. Those who have recently returned from travel or who have attended holiday meetings are also urged to be tested.
Cases:
- 3,850 cases were reported to the county on January 6. The total for the region is now 180,512.
- 6,142 or 3.4% of all cases required hospitalization.
- 1,261 or 0.7% of all cases and 20.5% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.
deaths:
- 47 new COVID-19 deaths were reported to the county on January 6. The total for the region is now 1,738.
- 16 women and 31 men died between December 21 and January 5.
- Of the 47 new deaths reported today, eight people who died were 90 years old, 11 people were 80 years old, 10 people were 70 years old, 14 people were 60 years old, two people were 50 years old and two people were 40 years.
- 46 had underlying medical conditions and one has a pending medical history.
