COVID-19 in Puerto Rico: Eight new deaths and 206 confirmed cases

He Department of Health reported eight more deaths from COVID-19, while 206 new confirmed positive cases, 24 probable positive cases and 209 positive suspicious cases were registered.

With the new deaths that took place between 10 December 2020 and 3 January 2021, the total number of deaths caused by the virus has risen to 1,570 since the pandemic began.

New reported deaths:

-An 89-year-old woman from the Bayamón region

-A 66-year-old man from the Bayamón region

-A 67-year-old woman from the Aguadilla region

-93-year-old man from the Metro region

-A 72-year-old woman from the Bayamón region

-A 90-year-old woman from the Bayamón region

-An 80-year-old man from the Caguas region

-A 61-year-old man from the Ponce region

According to health, the total number of confirmed cases was 74,756, while the probable cases are 4,856. The number of suspected cases amounts to 57,402.

The Agency adjusted the total number of confirmed cases after adding 92 cases before 21 December. Similarly, the total number of probable cases was adjusted after the remaining 29 cases that had a positive molecular test.

Salud also adjusted the total number of suspicious cases by subtracting 40 cases that had a positive molecular test and adding 12 cases before December 21st.

In the meantime, the number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 has decreased to 417, of which 64 are confined in an intensive care unit and 73 are connected to a ventilator. A pediatric patient is also intensive, according to statistics.

To date, hospitals in the country have 235 intensive care beds and 845 artificial respirators available for adults.

According to the agency, the confirmed positive case term refers to infections whose result was validated by a PCR (molecular) test. The probable case is one whose positive result for the disease was obtained by antigen testing. Meanwhile, the suspected cases, also known as antibody results, are those that were positive in the serological test and do not have a positive molecular or antigen test.

In addition, the agency explained that a confirmed death of COVID-19 corresponds to the death of a person with one or more positive molecular tests. Probable death is the death of a patient who was diagnosed with COVID-19 by an antigen test or whose clinical picture meets the criteria for believing that he or she had COVID-19 but never had a molecular or antigen test to detect the virus. . Meanwhile, suspicious death refers to the death of a person in whom a specific antibody is detected in serum, plasma or by a serological test with their blood.
