County exceeds 2,000 COVID-19 deaths, youngest victim reports | News

San Diego County has reached a grim stage in the COVID-19 pandemic, reporting a total of 2,005 San Diego residents lost to the virus. This includes 53 additional deaths reported today to the County Agency for Health and Human Services.

The deaths reported today include a 19-year-old man, the youngest San Diegan who died of COVID-19 complications.

“Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of this teenager and to the families and friends of the more than 2,000 San Diegani who died of COVID-19 during this pandemic,” said Wilma J. Wooten, MD, MPH, officer of county public health. “We understand that the pandemic has affected the community, but today’s report reminds us that we must do everything we can to protect each other and slow down the spread of COVID-19.”

Wooten continues to urge the San Diegans to do the following:

  • Keep your distance around others

ICU capacity and order of stay at home:

  • The current availability of the intensive care unit (ICU) bed for the Southern California region is 0.0% and will be updated daily by the state.

  • People at higher risk of COVID-19 who are with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should be tested. Those who have recently returned from travel or who have attended holiday meetings are also urged to be tested.
