After the Pfizer vaccine was released in mid-December, front-line health workers began receiving doses through Phase 1A of the Texas State Distribution Plan. The Moderna vaccine was approved shortly, and vaccinations in phase 1B began in the state for people aged 65 and over and people over the age of 16 who have at least one chronic condition, such as cancer, chronic diseases. kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart disease, solid organ transplantation, obesity, pregnancy, cell sickle and type 2 diabetes.

Vaccines at the city’s first public clinic will be available free of charge starting Saturday for those at “high risk of severe disease and death from coronavirus disease,” according to the Houston Department of Health.

People who meet the criteria for phase 1A or 1B are first advised to contact their doctor, hospital or pharmacy for vaccine availability. You can also use the online map of the Texas Department of Health Services to find a provider.

If you can’t get it through your doctor’s office, you can register to receive the Moderna vaccine by appointment from the health department at Saturday’s meal clinic.
