With the main objective of promoting football and competition throughout the region, Concacaf announced this Thursday afternoon that Champions League of clubs will be played in a different format for Season 2023-2024.
The idea is that in the last semester of 2023 there will be a group stage by region, and in the first six months of 2024 the final stage will take place, in a tournament that includes participation 50 teams.
Stage and regional classification It will be played as follows:
- North America: there will be 20 teams divided into four groups of five clubs each. The first and second place will go directly to the round of 16 and three more will join this stage, which will come out of a rehearsal after the group stage.
- Central America: There will also be 20 clubs divided into four groups of five, with the distinction that only four teams will qualify in this field, which will result from the clashes between the first four and the second best places.
- Caribbean: 10 teams will participate in the region in two groups of five. The best from each sector will play a key to define the club that will represent them in the round of 16 of the competition.
In the final phase there will be a total of 16 clubs that make it up: 11 from North America, four from Central America and one from the Caribbean. The duels will be a direct elimination, and the final will be played in a single game.
