Companies that develop applications to upload vaccine passports

Experts speculate that a possible return to the normal world of pre-coronavirus with concerts, sporting events, movies and flights abroad could require a person to have a vaccine passport, CNN reported on Sunday.

To prepare for such a scenario and to give individuals a handy authorization to do these activities, several companies are developing smartphone applications so that people can conveniently upload details about their coronavirus tests and vaccinations.

One such example is the common trust network, an application developed by non-profit groups to create a trust model for validating people’s health while traveling. The Common Trust Network has already partnered with several airlines and hundreds of healthcare systems in the United States

The group has created a CommonPass application that allows users to upload relevant medical information, such as proof of vaccination, that can generate a health certificate or pass as a QR code that can then be shown to authorities without disclosing sensitive information.

This means that “you can be tested every time you cross a border,” Thomas Crampton, chief marketing and communications officer for The Commons Project, told CNN, “You can’t be vaccinated every time you cross a border.”

Large technology companies are also working on similar projects. For example, IBM has developed its own application, Digital Health Pass, which allows companies and locations to customize the indicators they would be required to enter – such as coronavirus tests, temperature checks, and vaccination records.

Accreditations relating to those indicators could then be stored in a mobile wallet for easier convenience.
