Colombia is deploying frigates and combat aircraft in naval air exercises in the Caribbean

Colombian military forces (FFMM), through it National Army (SPRING) Yes Air Force (DO), carried out the first joint naval exercises conducted in the present 2021. They were developed in the waters of the San Andrés archipelago, Providencia and Santa Catalina, in Caribbean Sea, to increase joint operational capabilities.

These maneuvers are meant to warn Nicaragua of Colombia’s firm desire to defend its sovereignty over the region, after Nicaraguan National Assembly created, on January 29, the so-called Nicaragua Caribbean Biosphere Reserve, which includes marine and submarine spaces that Columbia recognizes as its own.

Military deployment

During the naval exercises, the FAC deployed a crew of three such aircraft. IAI Kfir C10 / 12 COA (THAT), while ARC participated with two light frigates of Admiral Padilla’s class, performing fire maneuvers during the operation.

Furthermore, Naval Aviation he had a plane like this Airbus (THE HOME) CN-235-200 Persuader, to strengthen patrolling in Colombian jurisdictional waters, detecting possible incursions of Nicaraguan ships into the archipelago, while also increasing the force Marines stationed in islands, islets and gorges, carrying these troops in a BDA / BAL-C amphibious landing craft.

The permanence of these naval means in the Islands will be for the period in which Ministry of Defence considers it necessary.
