It’s been almost 20 years since the launch of Call of Duty in 2003 and what a journey it was. The franchise has explored many different eras in history and has undergone countless changes. However, when you launch so many games, some are forced to get lost and others become legendary.
So it’s time to research the history of Call of Duty games to assign their verdict and then select the absolute cream of the crop – and classify them.

Ranking of the best Call of Duty games of all time
5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019

Modern Warfare has redefined the Call of Duty franchise, giving players one of the most polished and detailed Call of Duty titles ever created. It contained everything that made the series great up to this point and made it feel as clear as ever.
The campaign reintroduced classic characters, interspersed with new memorable ones and a new story. The fresh but familiar feeling was sprinkled with a restless terrorist attack in Picadilly Circus, fighting through a burning mine and other horrific scenes.
For multiplayer, the animations have been fine-tuned and the weapons have been revised to feel strong in the hands of each player. We got exciting new modes, such as Cyber Attack, and even returned to the much-loved Mod Spec Ops.
In March 2020, Activision released Modern Warfare’s Warzone mode, a 150-player Battle Royale – which was an instant hit. Since then, it has become one of the premiere experiences for Battle Royale with Warzone, now until its second season.
4. Call of Duty: World At War

With the evolution of the Call of Duty engine during the development of CoD 4: Modern Warfare, Treyarch had the opportunity to make the most detailed shooter experience of World War II. The first three Call of Duty games are pretty unacceptable compared to any CoD 4 post, but World at War has restored that feeling and improved.
World At War took a terrifying walk through the Pacific theater and the Russian front. The Gore mechanics made the game feel visceral and real, making the experience much more intense and realistic. The fabulous campaigns of the crescendos game in an incredible final, assaulting the Reichstag.
Multiplayer was an excellent extension of the new formula that the series discovered and transferred all those properties to World at War. However, the most incredible aspect of World at War must be a sleep hit, which now must have, Nazi Zombies.
The addition of The night of the living dead, a post-campaign mini-game, has further revolutionized the multiplayer experience. The mode received three more maps via DLC and has been continued in every Treyarch Call of Duty game since.
3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Needless to say, the anticipation and enthusiasm for a Modern Warfare sequel has reached unprecedented heights. The sequel far exceeded expectations, with the launch of another campaign with iconic features such as Captain Price, Commander Shepard, Ghost and a playable soap. The game becomes notorious for its mission “No Russian” and other controversial moments.
The multiplayer formula was in full swing and Modern Warfare 2 introduced a new set of 15 selectable killstreak rewards – including the game-changing nut. Maps like Terminal and Rust would be celebrated in CoD folklore and the 360 era was born without purpose.
If all this wasn’t enough, we also received “Special Ops”, a 1-2 player mode that recreated and expanded on many scenarios from the first two Modern Warfare games and challenged players to get maximum stars.
2. Call of Duty: Black Ops

Instead of making a direct sequel to World at War, as Infinity Ward did with Modern Warfare, Treyarch gave it a new title: “Black Ops.”
To bring a unique experience, they established their first Black Ops game in the Vietnam era. In the campaign, the players would be part of an elite team working with the CIA in covert operations around the world. We have the “What do the numbers mean?” and the return of fan favorite Viktor Reznov – played by Gary Oldman.
The zombies delivered another round, or 100, of intense undead killing action and introduced a new concept in the series in the form of Dead Ops. A top-down twin-top arcade shooter with powers for up to 4 players and hours of fun.
The multiplayer front continued to offer months of unforgettable action, with a litany of unmistakable maps: including one of the most divisible maps in the history of Call of Duty – Nuketown.
1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

The game that started it all and started a revolution in the first person shooter industry. After years of companies generally producing different versions of World War II games, Infinity Ward broke the game card and started from scratch with a hot new approach to modern conflict.
The campaign was one fascinating encounter after another, taking the player on a violent journey of death, destruction and even nuclear devastation. The one-two rescue from All Ghillied Up and One Shot, One Kill is as good as two missions in an FPS game and it all culminates in amazing fashion.
Even more remarkable than Soap’s fruit-killing abilities is the way Infinity Ward remodeled online multiplayer on its own, as we know it. Perfectly combine class systems, satisfying weapons, excellent maps of all times and more.
The game would consolidate Call of Duty as one of the most successful video game franchises in history and is even hotter than ever thanks to Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.
