Coca-Cola is testing its first paper bottle

Coca-Cola has a plastic problem. The company has been classified the world’s number one plastic polluter by the charity Break Free From Plastic in its annual survey.

Now, it seems that the company is trying to do something about its less ideal plastic recording. He presents his first paper bottle.

Announced in a blog post on the company’s website, the company’s initiative will aim to collect and recycle a bottle or box for each one it sells by 2030. It also intends to substantially reduce the use of virgin packaging materials and use only packaging materials that are 100% recyclable.

As part of these initiatives, Coca-Cola worked with partner Paboco to explore the concept of paper glass.

“Our vision is to create a paper bottle that can be recycled like any other type of paper, and this prototype is the first step towards achieving this. A bottle of paper opens up a whole new world of packaging possibilities and we are convinced that paper packaging has a role to play in the future, ”said on the blog Stijn Franssen, EMEA R&D Packaging Innovation Manager at Coca-Cola, who works at project.

The project is not yet complete. The new paper bottle still contains some plastic. But the company is moving to a completely plastic-free version.

“This first-generation paper glass prototype still consists of a paper case with a plastic closure and a plastic lining inside. The plastic we use is made of 100% recycled plastic that can be recycled again. “But our vision is to create a bottle of paper that can be recycled like any other paper. The next step is to find a solution to create a bottle without plastic lining,” Stijn explained.

The initiative is part of the Coca-Cola program called A World Without Waste and we must say that we are delighted.
