Cleveland Indians ace Shane Bieber slowed by COVID-19, who was not yet in camp

CLEVELAND – Ace Shane Bieber of the Cleveland Indians gave positive results to COVID-19, postponing the arrival of the American League winner Cy Young in the training camp.

Baseball operations president Chris Antonetti said on Thursday that Bieber had treated only very mild symptoms of the virus. Antonetti anticipates that Bieber, who worked at the team’s training complex in Goodyear, Arizona, will join the club in the coming days.

Antonetti did not reveal when Bieber gave positive results.

The team’s players and captains reported earlier this week, and the Indians will have their first full team training on Sunday.

Bieber, 25, was dominant last season, leading the league in wins (8), ERA (1.63) and hits (122) in 12 starts. Bieber has gone 34-14 in the last three seasons.

The Indians rely on him to lead their strong starting staff and to keep the club competitive following All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor and right-hander Carlos Carrasco.
