City of Riverside opens first COVID-19 vaccination clinic

RIVERSIDE, California (KABC) – The city of Riverside has joined other big cities, setting up a COVID-19 vaccine clinic on Saturday in the Riverside Convention Center parking lot.

The city expects to administer the Moderna vaccine to 500 people entering Phase 1 and Phase 1B category 1, as well as people aged 65 and over.

“The tier system is set by the state and administered by the county, and we are now in the tier system section that includes teachers, law enforcement personnel, emergency service workers, such as those active in the EOC, and food and In addition, anyone aged 65 or over and anyone at the above levels, such as a healthcare worker who may not have already received the vaccine, is still eligible to receive the vaccine. ” said Captain Tim Strack of the Riverside Fire Department.

Saturday’s vaccine clinic is one of three taking place, including Monday and Tuesday. Officials expect to administer 500 vaccinations every day between 9:00 and 16:00

Appointments are required to receive the vaccine. No meetings were available on Saturday.

Before the clinic opened, people were already lined up.

“We hope to expand this site to as many as 1,500 a day. However, now the problem is that we do not have the vaccine. Once we can get them, we will expand this site as much as we can and when we get more, they will be more meetings, “said Captain Strack.

Those who received the vaccine will have to return within 28 days to receive the second shot.
