Chromebook users will soon be able to automatically subtitle any media playback in their browser

Google has announced some new features coming to Chromebooks, including the company’s live subtitling feature that will be added to Chrome on “most” Chrome OS devices in the coming weeks. Once live captions are available, users can browse them in the accessibility settings to get captions for any audio media in their browser. The feature was released on Chrome on Windows, Mac and Linux in March.

Google is also improving Chrome OS Launcher, which lets you search for files and applications with a few new features, allowing you to make simple calculations and check the weather, word definition, and stock prices.

The search giant is also adding a new diagnostic app to the Chrome operating system that lets you check the status and run tests on your computer’s battery, CPU, and memory. This means that if your battery isn’t charged for as long as you think it should, you can run a battery discharge test in the Diagnostics app to see if something is wrong.

The new launch features and Diagnostics are not yet available for a colleague of mine running Chrome, but Google tells us The Verge that the launch begins today. So if you don’t have the new features yet, you may just need to stay tuned until you get the update.
