Chris Hemsworth joins #TimesUpGlobes movement over lack of black members in Hollywood Foreign Press Association

Chris Hemsworth criticized the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for its lack of diversity after a report said it currently had no black members.

The 37-year-old star Thor joined a growing number of celebrities by posting the hashtag #TimesUpGlobes and its message on Sunday.

“Hollywood Foreign Press Association: Not Even a Black Member of 87,” reads the Time’s Up post, along with the image of a cracked Golden Globe trophy.

Amy Schumer, Rashida Jones, Ellen Barkin and Amber Tamblyn are some of the other stars who have shown their support.

It comes after a Los Angeles Times report revealed that HFPA, which runs and organizes the Golden Globe Awards, currently has no black members out of its 87 international journalists.

HFPA is a non-profit journalism organization that reports on the U.S. entertainment industry to media predominantly outside the U.S.

Its 87 members in more than 50 countries include various people of color, but not a single black member.

On Thursday, the HFPA issued a statement promising to implement an “action plan” in order to have a more inclusive and diverse membership.

“We are fully committed to ensuring that our members reflect communities around the world who love film, television and the artists who inspire and educate them,” the statement said.

The organization added that it is exploring changing the rules to increase its group of applicants in the future.
