Chip Gaines revealed to Oprah Winfrey that he “lost a part of me” because of the fame he gained through Fixer Upper.
The 46-year-old TV star said that his wife and co-star Joanna Gaines did better with the stars, because it was not a “big deal” for her.
In a preview clip obtained by People, he revealed that he and Joanna tried to “unpack” his problems after Fixer Upper ended in 2018 and took a year off.

Oprah raised the issue by emphasizing that “if you don’t know who you are when fame comes, then you get lost.”
She asked her guests, “Did you all start to feel this or did you know you were founded before fame happened?”
The talk show icon explained, “Were you so grounded, you had your own life, your four children, and you took your free time because you wanted to be surrounded?”
Chip replied that “I want to speak on behalf of Jo because she would never say such things, but she is so incredibly wise, so incredibly grounded.”

He confessed, “The truth for me and Jo was that it wasn’t a big deal for her, but to become famous I lost a part of me that really was, it was sad.”
Chip continued: “And I’d say it took me a year or two while I was still filming to try to deal with exactly what I was losing.”
He mentioned that “then, in that free year, I really think that Jo and I managed to manage and try to unpack what was about fame that seemed so incompatible with my personality.”

The couple has been married since 2003 and now have five children – Drake, 16, Ella, 14, Duke, 12, Emmie, 11 and Crew, two.
Chip and Joanna were interviewed by Oprah for her Super Soul Sunday show in an episode that will be broadcast this weekend on Discovery +.
Fixer Upper started on HGTV in 2014 and managed to run for five seasons and raised the “farmhouse chic” profile before ending in 2018.
Now the couple is working on their own Magnolia network with an application that is scheduled to be launched this year on July 15.
