Chicago Weather: Winter storm expects New Year’s Day, with more snow, ice and rain

CHICAGO (WLS) – After the first major winter storm of the season dumped inches of snow and some icy rain in the Chicago area, another is expected in the same week.

The new year kicks off with a storm expected to bring more snow, ice and rain to the area on Friday, said ABC 7 Chicago meteorologist Tracy Butler.

The National Weather Service has one Winter weather advice from 10:00 am Friday to midnight Saturday for Cook, DuPage, Kane, DeKalb and Will counties. It only runs until 6pm for Kankakee County until Friday.

Much of northwestern Indiana is also covered by one Winter weather advice see you Friday evening. In Lake and Porter counties, it runs until 1:00 a.m. EST Saturday.

The counties of Grundy, Kendall, LaSalle and Livingston are under one Winter Storm Watch until midnight Saturday.

The first major winter storm of the season threw inches of snow and some icy rain, making travel around the Chicago area treacherous on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
