With heavy snow expected to hit the Chicago area by Tuesday morning, dozens of school districts have canceled classes or announced they will switch to e-learning due to the weather.

According to the latest updates on the Emergency Closure Center website, many districts have announced that they will completely cancel courses or switch to e-learning due to severe weather.

An announcement about Chicago’s public school classes is expected Monday at 5 p.m., according to Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

Several colleges in the area have also announced the cancellation of in-person courses, including DeKalb University in Northern Illinois. All courses after 17:00 on Monday will be moved online for the rest of the day.

All personal classes at the University of Chicago have been canceled since 2:30 p.m., and these cancellations will be held Tuesday through noon.

Non-essential activities are also canceled.

DePaul University’s Lincoln Park and Loop campuses will close Monday night and remain closed Tuesday due to inclement weather, according to university officials.

All in-person courses are canceled and online courses can be resumed as scheduled. The school requires in-person courses to move to distance learning, if possible.

The campus of the University of Illinois-Chicago will actually close on Monday at 4 pm, the school announced on social networks.

Kankakee Community College will close its facilities at 14:00 on Monday and will remain closed on Tuesday. All learning will move to distance learning format, the school said.

All facilities at Purdue University Northwest and Indiana University Northwest are also closed due to bad weather.
