Chicago police found seven children inside a vacant apartment Friday afternoon when they were called to a welfare checkpoint at a building in Humboldt Park, authorities said.
At approximately 3:50 p.m. in Block 700 in North Trumbull, officers arrived on the scene and contacted a witness who advised someone to be in a first-floor apartment unit that would otherwise be free.
Officers found seven children: a 14-year-old girl, an 11-year-old boy, a 7-year-old boy, a 6-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy, a 4-year-old boy, an old girl and a 23-month-old child .
All the children were taken to AMITA Health Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center and said they were in good condition, police said.
A 31-year-old woman was questioned by detectives on Friday night.
