CHICAGO (WLS) – Chicago’s home residence council will be extended by nearly two weeks to help limit the spread of the virus, City Hall announced Sunday.

In November, Mayor Lori Lightfoot, along with Chicago Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwardy, advised all Chicago residents to stay home in response to the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the city.

The issued recommendation will take effect on January 10 for another 12 days, according to city officials.

Residents are advised to leave their home only to go to work or school or for essential needs – such as medical care, going to the grocery store or pharmacy, picking up food or receiving supplies.
