Khabib Nurmagomedov has officially given up his UFC championship slightly, but will not be vacant for long.
Lightweight contenders Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira are set to take the belt on May 15 at UFC 262. Currently, the event does not have a publicly known location or venue.
Two people who knew about the match confirmed the reservation at MMA Junkie on Thursday, but asked to remain anonymous, as the promotion has not yet made an official announcement. ESPN he was the first to report the news.
Bellator’s longtime run, where he was a three-time champion, Chandler (22-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC) joined the free agency and signed with the UFC in late 2020. At UFC 257 in January, he made his promotional debut with an impressive first-round TKO victory over Dan Hooker.
A member of the 2010 roster, Oliveira (30-8 MMA, 18-8 UFC) enters his first title fight in the most successful period of his UFC term. Oliveira has won eight straight fights, including victories over Jim Miller, Kevin Lee and, most recently, Tony Ferguson at UFC 256 in December.
