On a recent episode of AEW Unlimited, Luther and Serpentico from Chaos Project were on the podcast with Aubrey Edwards and Tony Schiavone. Serpentico confirmed that AEW President and CEO Tony Khan was the person who associated Luther with him, and Serpentico talked about how this happened.
He saw us randomly in the back, just to be together and something like that, and we have something unique “, remarked Serpentico. “And he approached Lenny first. I heard through the vine that he might have the idea to put us together. He gave us a little test match to see how we froze, and that was it. He put us in a match that night. ”
Luther then spoke about how he entered the AEW. Luther was one of the first names to be named the leader of the Dark Order.
“I get a call from Chris Jericho and he says I’m looking for a manager for a new group he’s forming, Dark Order. He had brought my name and they were interested in him, “Luther recalled. “I sent a test tape and they liked it and they wanted to see another one. So I sent another one. They liked it. So I sent another one and then they brought me to do a screen test, but there were other people running for the same concert.
“Even so, I thought it was great to be mentioned with all those people and they said they liked it. I didn’t know about the group, so I’m watching some tapes [Evil] Uno and Stu [Grayson]. I kind of did something about what they were doing at the time, which doesn’t look like what I’m doing now. So I was teaching at a school in Salem, so I just had the students be Creepers or whatever. I used them for my audition tape. ”
Serpentico made his AEW debut during the pandemic. He took QT Marshall and Dustin Rhods in a team match and revealed his situation at the time.
“That match was immediately after all reservations stopped. The Indians are closing, “Serpentico said. “Because I’m local, I had at least 10 to 15 reservations that week alone. Well, that’s where my rent goes, because at the time, I was actually living in independent fighting. I’m really proud of that, but at the same time, because I was living in independent fighting, once it stopped, which no one thought was going to happen, now how am I going to pay the rent? What am I going to do?
“I have some savings, but eventually it will disappear and I have known QT for so long. We trained together at Bubba and Devon School in Florida. He reached out to me and said, “Hey, I know it hurts for reservations and stuff, and that might not lead to anything. I can only promise to show up. Do you want to fight me? That would be great. And personally I thought that, well, this would be a nice way to go out, fighting with one of my friends. Fight Dustin and then that’s it, because I didn’t expect any of that to come. ”
Serpentico admitted that he thought that match would be his last. He discussed why he had this mentality.
“They kept calling me back and I told QT a few months later. My intention was to be my last match “, revealed Serpentico. “I like to say that I am a very advanced thinker and I did not think I could start my career after a global pandemic where I was. It will be very difficult. The fight was hot. It was great and once everything stops, it’s like an engine. He has to slowly start turning his steps again and eventually he will start again, but it looks like you won’t be able to make a living. So this was my last match and he kept calling me back and here I am now.
