Chamber calls on Congress to speak “clearly” about status alternatives

On Tuesday, the House of Representatives, with a vote of 28 in favor and 11 against, approved the simultaneous resolution No. 1 presented by the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) delegation to nominate for the Congress of the United States and the world to denounce. “The Violation of Puerto Ricans’ Democratic Rights.”

“We demand and call on the Congress of the United States of America to speak out clearly and firmly on the alternatives it is willing to consider to address the political relationship between Puerto Rico and the United States of America. It is imperative that it, in its expression, promote and designate a binding, participatory and inclusive process of all sectors that support the various status formulas, ”said Chamber President Rafael Hernández in his speech.

The resolution, which gained a vote in favor of the delegations of the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) and the Citizen Victory Movement (MVC), also denounces violations of the provisions of Law 600 and the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Popular lawmakers reported that a written copy of the approved Concurrent Resolution will be sent to Congress, its president and the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General.
