It is estimated that more than 10 million Peruvians have suffered Covid-19 in the last year and the number continues to grow. Much has been said about prevention and vaccines, but little is known about the treatment of the sequelae that this virus can leave in patients. Dr. César Carozzi spoke with Perú21TV to find out more about recovery treatments.

César Carozzi, general surgeon and specialist in hyperbaric medicine at the Ricardo Palma Clinic, points out that when the virus enters the body, through various mechanisms it prevents the arrival of oxygen in the cells and generalized hypoxia occurs. Under these conditions, inflammation, pneumonitis and severe respiratory failure are generated.

Dr. Carozzi’s specialty is hyperbaric medicine, which has been shown to be very effective as a post-covid treatment. “When a person enters the hyperbaric chamber and breathes medical oxygen at high pressure, his body will saturate 20 times more oxygen than under normal conditions, reducing inflammation and recovering damaged tissues.
