CBS reportedly paid more than $ 7 million for the broadcast of Oprah Winfrey’s highly anticipated interview with Prince Harry and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle.
The two-hour interview, aired Sunday at 8 p.m., cost the network quite a fortune – probably between $ 7 million and $ 9 million, the Wall Street Journal reported.
CBS bought the profitable rights – the network charges $ 325,000 for every 30 seconds of commercial time – from Winfrey’s Harpo Productions and may also license the interview to international markets.
A Sussex spokesman told the newspaper that they were not paid for the interview.
In an excerpt from a teased CBS This Morning interview on Friday, Markle tells Winfrey that she feels “liberated” to speak for herself after she had to turn down the TV host’s initial request because she was not allowed to talk to her ”then.
The special is the couple’s first televised interview since they abruptly gave up Buckingham Palace last year.
