Cayetano Heredia Medicine is the first professional career licensed by Sunedu News

Sunedu was licensed to pursue a medical career at the Cayetano Heredia University of Peru (UPCH) for a period of ten years, after verifying the existence of the Basic Quality Conditions (CBC).

It is the first professional career in Peru to receive a license. “It is a priority career, which has the character of a public service and has a high impact on people’s lives, safety or health,” said the National Superintendency of Higher University Education.

The entity recalls that since 2007, it has not been verified in Peru whether medical schools or faculties meet the minimum quality standards, so that the evaluation of medical programs – which Sunedu implemented at the end of 2019 – is a mechanism to protect people and social welfare, which aims to provide comprehensive training for health professionals.

Given the specialization of these programs, the evaluation team consists of expert medical professionals with extensive experience in university teaching and in the processes of academic evaluation and accreditation.

What was evaluated?

The licensing of this program assessed the adequacy of teaching profiles, laboratory equipment according to the program of each program, the adequacy of clinical and socio-sanitary fields for academic activities at different levels of care and the provision of health services, biosecurity for teachers and students, among other fundamental aspects. , to ensure adequate training for medical students.

The license granted to the UPCH university professional career will be valid for 10 years. This deadline, the maximum to be granted, was set from variables related to research and training, such as the total number of publications in indexed journals in the last five years, the level of citation of their publications and the average score obtained in three years. to all doctors who have given the national medical examination.

To date, the Superintendency is evaluating another 18 applications for authorization of medical programs. For this new process, a fully digitized procedure has been designed: the procedure is electronic, with digital signatures and without the need to present physical documents.

Finally, licensing of medical degree programs is a second important step in Sunedu’s work, which is moving towards academic excellence, with a firm commitment to further ensure the quality of training of medical professionals, which will it brings about the improvement of public health and the quality of life of the citizens, the institution indicates.
