With the return of Fox’s prodigal son with the premiere of season 2 on January 12, the show will receive a new addition to the cast at the end of this season.
Catherine Zeta-Jones has signed the regular role of the Dr. Vivian Capshaw series, according to a Fox statement.
The 51-year-old actress will work with Michael Sheen, who also comes from her native Wales, debuting in the “second half of the season”.

The second season will find Sheen’s doctor Martin Whitly assigned to the infirmary, where he meets Capshaw.
Capshaw, “delights in the tasks of the” Surgeon “to clean the beds and wipe the floor,” according to the official description.
Surprisingly, Capshaw sees Whitley as becoming “valuable in treating patients,” as she begins, “to see him in a new light … which is not a good thing.”

Prodigal Son will return for the second season in a new evening, Tuesday, January 12, at 21:00 ET on Fox.

The show was series no. 1 which debuted last fall, averaging 9.3 million multi-platform viewers.
The show follows Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne), a criminal profiler with a rare talent to enter the minds of the killers.
He found out what they thought because his father, Martin Whitly, was a serial killer known as the “Surgeon.”

The show also stars Aurora Perrineau as Detective Dani Powell, JT Tarmel as Detective Frank Harts and Keiko Agena as Dr. Edrisa Tanaka.
The second season returns with Malcolm trying to take care of his sister Ainsley (Halston Sage) while protecting his mother Jessica (Bellamy Young) from a secret that could break the family.
The season also follows Martin as he “tries to deepen his relationship with Bright, his prodigal son, but forging this connection leads to shocking upheavals and revelations.”
