Carlos Salcedo reveals that he preferred to go to Chivas over an offer from Europe

The defender reminded that due to a clause, by saving Chivas from relegation, the club could accept offers from European football

Carlos Salcedo told on an Instagram Live that before his arrival in Chivas, in 2015, he had the opportunity to emigrate to the old continent as a team in the Jupiter Pro League in Belgium. He was interested in the Tigres youth team, however the “Titan” decided to lean towards the offer of the Guadalajara team that offered him to go to Europe, as long as the Flock was saved from the relegation zone.

“From there I was going to Belgium and when I was going to Belgium, Nestor and ‘Chepo’ from Torre spoke to me, told me that if I want to go to Chivas, that they are interested and put a clause that says that if the team we saved was fighting for demotion at the time, they told me that if we saved ourselves automatically, I could go to Europe, I think it was very attractive.

Chivas was the first team in which Salcedo played in Mexican football, as he could never make his professional debut with the Tigers, despite being in the grassroots with college students.

“Why didn’t I make my debut in the Tigers? Because I left when I was about 17, from there I went to MLS, to Real Salt Lake, I made my debut, I did well in the two seasons I was there.”

Salcedo wore the Chivas jersey for a year and a half and then emigrated to the 2016 Apertura at Fiorentina in Serie A in Italy. Chivas’ defender admits that his trial with Flock helped him become better prepared in the Italian league.

“It was a big step, because it helped me have a good base and from there, when I left for Europe, you were already more of a player.”

In addition to the possibility of going to Europe, his stay with Chivas gave Salcedo the opportunity to win his first title in Mexican football by winning the Copa MX against León.
