Captain Toad levels gained a cooperative boost for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

The four-player co-op is now expanding to Captain Toad’s Adventures

As a fan of the original Wii U, I went from vaguely waiting to play Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Rage “When it’s the right time” to want to play it right away in February – and feel good about that choice. I wasn’t psychic at the time until I saw what Bowser’s anger involved and learned that there will be cooperation (though only for two players instead of the four-player hijinks of the main campaign).

That is the change. And quite funny, it’s a trajectory similar to that of Pikmin 3 Deluxe – another really great Wii U gem that I felt was worth taking again for its extra multiplayer support.

That being said, it looks like Nintendo is making an extra effort Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Rage. As shown in a game clip on Twitter today, the updated Switch title will have four-player co-op in the Captain Toad puzzle levels. Do you remember these? The lines are pretty blurry to me at the moment.

Toad levels in Super Mario 3D World on the Wii U it was a solo deal (GamePad only), but on the Switch, Captain Toad will be joined by blue, green and yellow Toads – assuming you have IRL backup. You will “work together” to collect Green Stars. (And by that I mean you’re going to get mad at each other.)

This is undoubtedly a small addition to the grand scheme of The 3D world, one that many people will not fully use, but it matters. When it comes to relaunching video games, small touches always matter.
