Captain Sir Tom Moore: British war veteran who walked the NHS dies in Covid

Captain Tom Moore, the centenarian war veteran who became a blockade icon in Britain after an epic sponsored walk to raise money for the National Health Service, has died at the age of 100.

Moore’s family announced his death in a post on his Twitter account. It has recently yielded positive results for Covid-19, attracting messages of support from Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other prominent figures.

“I am very sorry to hear that Captain Tom is dead in hospitalHealth Secretary Matt Hancock said on Twitter. “He was a great British hero who showed the best in our country and I send his best wishes to his family at this time.”

Moore, who was named Queen Knight for her charities, raised more than £ 32 million ($ 44 million) for the NHS after walking 100 laps around her garden before turning 100 a year last.
