Canelo Alvarez meets WBA super-middleweight title Callum Smith in Saturday’s main DAZN book event at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) has not fought since TKO’s 11th round victory over Sergey Kovalev in November 2019. This is his first fight since becoming a free agent in November after breaking up. links with the long-term promoter Golden Promotions Boys.
Smith (27-0, 19 KOs) won the title by defeating George Groves in the World Boxing Super Series final in September 2018. He has defended the belt twice since then.
In the main event, the top prospect of the weights Frank Sanchez (16-0, 12 KOs) takes Julian Fernandez (14-2, 11 KOs) in a 10-round battle. Sanchez stepped up the competition this year and dominated Joey Dawejko in a unanimous unilateral decision in March, before stopping Brian Howard in the fourth round on November 7th.
Also on the card, Christian Alan Gomez Duran (18-2-1, 16 KOs) faces the timing of Angel Hernandez (17-15-2, 11 KOs) in an eight-round welterweight match, and Raymond Ford (7-0, 3 KOs) takes Juan Antonio Lopez (15-7, 6 KOs) in a light six-round junior fight.

Ford dominates, stopping Lopez in round 7
Quick lightweight junior prospect Raymond “Savage” Ford (8-0, 4 KOs) overtook Juan Antonio Lopez (15-8, 6 KOs) and used a quick right hook to score a seventh-round tie. . His fist dropped Lopez to one knee and he didn’t make a 10-count.
Ford controlled much of the fight, which included a first-round shot, but received a test from Lopez, who showed a fight offering tough endurance in the middle rounds. But in the seventh round, it looked like Lopez was out of action after the hook on the right Ford landed for the last time.
Ford, a Southpaw from Camden, New Jersey, is just 21 years old and has already been a wrestling partner for Shakur Stevenson, Jaron Ennis and Tevin Farmer. On Saturday, he consistently showed the speed that people believe up, while receiving a nice development test from a Lopez game.
Williams demolishes Jones
Austin “Ammo” Williams (7-0, 6 KO) excited middleweight prospect started the night with a dominant first-round TKO victory over Isiah Jones (9-4, 3 KOs) in a fight that lasted only 91 seconds.
Williams hit Jones with a vicious left hook that seriously injured him, then Williams jumped on Jones with relentless pressure on his body before the referee stopped his wisdom. Jones had never been stopped before, but Williams’ quick, strong hands were clearly too much for him.
Williams was a fighting partner for Callum Smith, which led to Saturday night’s fight against Canelo Alvarez. This was an important milestone for Southpaw, 24, of Houston, who jumped late in his boxing career and hopes to take a step into the competition in 2021.
