Camilo doesn’t need any introductions at this time. At 26, this singer-songwriter, a Latin music star, has over 11 million followers on YouTube and about 20 million on Instagram.
“Ropa Cara”, his latest single and the third to be released before what will be his second album, is about to reach 10 million views on YouTube in less than a week, after being released on January 18, because Camilo, dressed in “Expensive Clothes”, undressed his soul in the form of music.
CAMILO FACTOR
Camilo Echeverry was born in Medellín, Colombia, on March 16, 1994, although he lived in Montería from the age of five. The son of Eugenio Echeverry and Lía Correa, from an early age, music guided his heartbeat.
“There was no radio in my house, but I had recordings from the Beatles, Mercedes Sosa, Pink Floyd, Facundo Cabral, Charly García …”, he said in an interview with Efe Miami. “This was my first seed: since I was little, my dream was that legacy,” he explained. Therefore, it is not surprising that he formed a musical duo with his very young sister Manuela.
In 2006, they participated in the “XS Factor” contest together, but did not reach the final. However, a year later, Camilo came alone to the “talent show” … And he was the winner, which gave him the prize for recording his first “mixtape” as Camilo Echevarry, “Regálame tu Corazón”, which launched it in 2008.
In the same year he appeared in several soap operas, such as “En los tacones de Eva” and “Súper Pá”, as well as presenter of the children’s program “Bichos” until 2009, when he toured in Colombia and the United States.
Later, in 2010, came his next “mixtape,” “Trafficking in Feelings,” which was successful in Colombia and several Latin American countries. A year later, in 2011, he returned to “Factor XS” as a presenter and to the “Bichos” program, until 2014.
SING … AND WRITE
Meanwhile, in 2013 he released “Let me love you today.” After that, Camilo Echevarry decided to put his name aside to simply be Camilo, change the scene and be behind the lights: he started writing songs for other artists.
“For a long time I wanted to hide behind the scenes or under the stage,” he confessed years later, the already popular artist he is today, when he talked about this retreat in his video “Back to the game.”
In 2015 she moved to Miami, Florida (USA), and continued with that trajectory, with hits such as “She has no boyfriend”, by Sebastian Yatra with Mau and Ricky (2018), “Veneno”, by Anitta (2018) ) or “Sin Pijama” (2019), by Becky G with Natti Natasha.
Other artists he has worked with or coincided with are: Prince Royce, Daddy Yankee, Bad Bunny, Yandel, Juanes, Bomba Estéreo or Karol G. Sometimes, co-writing with some. Others, writing for others, as an actor of words.
And, for Camilo, “when you write for someone else, you work as a composer, but also as an actor, because you write someone else’s feelings. He explained and added: “I’m Ricky Martin for a while, for another Becky G …”.
BOHEMIAN SUCCESS
Because to see him again as a performer, we should wait until 2018, when a Camilo without a family name and far from that image of an impeccable and perfect teenager, returned in the spotlight with a much more bohemian and messy image , highlighting a traditional mustache.
But, at this relaunch, the Colombian did not go alone. He did it at the beginning with Manuel Turizo and Mau & Ricky (his brothers-in-law) with “Desconocidos” and repeated with the duet for “La boca”. The success he achieved with the first song served him to sign a contract with Sony Music Latin.
A year later, in 2019, he released “No te vayas”, his first single as Camilo. To do this, he had the collaboration of his current wife, then Venezuelan friend, actress and singer Evaluna Montaner, sister of Mau & Ricky and daughter of singer Ricardo Montaner.
The artist never spared in his public manifestations of love for his wife, whom he married in 2020: “forever”, he said on Instagram when he tattooed his name and published the photo.
Together with her, she feeds her YouTube channel and social networks, sharing not only music, but also her life and love relationship from a “Christian perspective”. Because they want to highlight “the power of love to improve and bring light to life in difficult times.”
“Don’t Go” was a hit that still holds. The YouTube video has already surpassed 250 million views. Thus, in the middle of the pandemic, his first studio album was released on April 17, 2020 with the title “For the first time”.
He was accompanied by a similar success, with 6 nominations at the Latin Grammy. Among them, he was the winner of the award for “Best Pop Song” with “Tutu”.
“CARA ROPA” DRESS.
And what about the difference between the lyricist Camilo and the singer-songwriter? “When you write alone and for yourself, it’s 100% you, in all your essence,” he said, saying, “When I write for another artist, I can have the song in two hours. For me, it takes weeks. “
This is its essence. The packaging is its striking aesthetic: “my girlfriend saw me”, he told Efe in 2019. And his appearance brought him a lot of criticism on the internet because, according to users, “he dressed badly” being rich, alluding to “Vida de Rico ”, another success of his with“ Baby ”or“ Tutu ”.
About this and his source of inspiration, the singer spoke on Instagram: “I like how poetic and significant we create the image of God from the simplest and dirtiest of all materials: mud, dust,” he said, responding to a question from a fan about the black spots on his nails: “I am reminded at any moment of the symbolic image of God with the dirty clay hands that give me life.”
Difficult moments like the one he experienced at the beginning of this year when he lost one of his collaborators: “Ruper, after a few months of fighting with COVID-19, today he went to heaven and my heart broke into a thousand pieces “Said the artist on Instagram,” she was the first person to hear ‘Vida de Rico’ and I knew it was a good song when I realized she made him dance. “
Now, Camilo is releasing his first single in 2021, “Ropa Cara”. A song that owes its title, as in “Vida de Rico”, to claim the simple life and criticize the superficiality and ostentation … And based on the reality of the artist: “it is a song that talks about those mutations that he has do it for love, no matter how long it may seem, “he said in a statement.
“The story took place at a time in my life, when I moved out of love,” he confessed and explained: “I was very open with my present and what I live and I felt it was time to tell a little about my past “.
A past that I can know in the form of a song because Camilo makes his life and music essence.
