“From now on, it is forbidden to enter our country, anyone whose flight itinerary included the United Kingdom or South Africa or who has been in either of these two countries in the last 30 days,” said the Salvadoran president. .

Bukele’s decision came after several European countries began banning flights from the United Kingdom on Sunday, after the discovery of a more contagious variant of coronavirus that spreads “out of control” in that country and before which the WHO called for tightening controls .

At a press conference, the Health Cabinet reported that it is not known how long the flight restriction that has already been decreed in the United Kingdom and South Africa will last, in order to prevent the new strain from entering El Salvador.

Francisco Alabí, the health minister, assured that very little is known about the new mutation and that “everything necessary will be done to limit the contagion and protect the safety of Salvadorans”.

The official assured that the constant increase in cases has the health system in emergency situations and that if the infections continue as before, at the beginning of January, a second wave of infections would start.
