Buckingham Palace on Tuesday revealed the cause of Prince Philip’s hospitalization, a week after the 99-year-old royal was hospitalized.
“The Duke of Edinburgh remains at King Edward VII’s hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment for an infection,” the palace said in a statement to HuffPost. “He is comfortable and responding to treatment, but he is not expected to leave the hospital for a few days.”
Sources close to the palace previously confirmed that the duke’s illness was not related to COVID-19. Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth received their first COVID-19 vaccination in January.

Prince Edward told Sky News on Tuesday that his father was “much better”.
“We look forward to coming out, which is the most positive thing, so we keep our fingers crossed,” the Count of Wessex said.
When asked if his father was frustrated in the hospital, Edward laughed and said “a little.”
“I think that reaches all of us, and then you can watch the clock so many times, and the walls are so interesting,” he said.
“We have received some brilliant and wonderful messages from all kinds of people and we really appreciate this, as well as him,” he added. “It simply came to our notice then. It’s fantastic, thank you. ”
Prince William also gave an update to his grandfather on Monday, while visiting a coronavirus vaccination center.
“Yes, it’s all right, I’m watching him,” William said with one eye.
