Buckingham Palace issues the first statement since the interview with Harry and Meghan

Buckingham Palace on Tuesday issued the first statement since Prince Harry and Meghan’s shocking interview with Oprah Winfrey. In it, Queen Elizabeth says, “The whole family is saddened to learn how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.”

“The issues raised, especially those related to race, are worrying,” the statement continued. “Although some memories may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be approached by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

While the interview was broadcast on Sunday in the US, it was not broadcast until Monday evening in the UK.

Meghan said in an interview that there were “several conversations” between the royal family about “how dark” their baby’s skin would be. Oprah confirmed to CBS This Morning that Harry had said those conversations did not involve Queen Elizabeth or her husband, Prince Philip.

This is a breaking story. It will be updated.
