The long and complicated saga of Britney Spears’ conservatory – the legal arrangement that has dominated and controlled the life and finances of the music superstar for more than a decade – has taken another, not surprisingly, step this week. variety rEPORTS that a lawyer for Spears has moved to eventually demand that her father, Jamie Spears, be removed from his role as her staff conservator, a position has been detained (except for at least one leave due to medical leave) for most of the last 13 years.
This position gave the old Spears incredible control over her daughter’s life, including medical decisions, appointment of bodyguards and ability to decide which visitors she is allowed to receive. His daughter’s lawyer has now requested that that exclusive power be now transferred to Jodi Montgomery, who was appointed temporary care manager for Britney after Jamie Spears was incapacitated due to the medical absence mentioned above in 2019.
It is worth noting that Spears is not currently in danger of being removed by his co-conservator from his daughter’s estate (which means, her great fortune and her business concerns). which he co-manages with the Bessemer Trust Company. (Although statements by Spears’ legal team earlier this year suggests she is not happy with this arrangement.)
Problems with the Spears Conservatory have been going on for years, but have been brought to light recently by Framing Britney Spears docuseries. The next hearing to determine the fate of the musician’s legal status will take place in April.
