“Bridgerton” becomes Netflix’s most popular original series

The hit show “Bridgerton” is officially the most watched original Netflix series in the company’s history.

The show, based on a book of the same name by Julia Quinn, surpassed even the streaming service’s own pink projections in its first season, garnering 82 million views, Deadline reported on Wednesday.

Bridgerton describes the life of the upper class in Regency England, offering a subversive approach to the period with color-blind casting and a story that focuses heavily on women’s lives.

The series was released on December 25 on Netflix and was described by GQ Magazine as a combination of “Gossip Girl” and “Downton Abbey.”

“I think the show really offers an incredible escape for the audience at a time when that’s exactly what is needed,” said director Chris Van Dusen.

” Bridgerton ‘is this Regency love story, lavish, vibrant and steamy; it is about romance, love and joy; I think all of these things are truly universal themes that people respond to. ”

Netflix he tweeted a message of appreciation for fans of the show on Wednesday, thanking them for making “Bridgerton” a success.

Regé-Jean Page, who plays the Duke of Hastings, also posted a photo with the entire cast and team thanking the fans for their love and support.

Last week, Netflix announced that Bridgerton will return for the second season and will focus on Bridgerton’s old child, Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey.

It remains unclear how many of the show’s season will return.
