Here is what is happening in the world of television for Friday, December 25 and Saturday, December 26. All times are Eastern.

Top choice

Bridgerton (Netflix, friday, 03:01): Shonda Rhimes is finally trying to Netflix as a producer with this gossip Girl-Vintage British drama, based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling novels. The very romantic but outrageous show is in the high society of London and follows the brothers of the powerful Bridgerton family, while trying to find love in the Regency era. That’s about it AV Club can share at this time, as many plot points are still under embargo, which is why I invited Lady Whistledown to settle in our Bridgerton pre-air review.

Movie night

The Wonderful Woman 1984 (HBO Max, Friday, 3:01 AM): “In a Wonder Woman movie, you want the story to be about Wonder Woman. And, although the film begins promisingly in this regard – as Barbara and Diana have a cautious friendship – the narrative is so full that by the end, Gadot’s character and its performance is presented by those around it. Combined with the tendency of the script to say “Look there!” whenever a plot point creates credulity, the film also has a pulpy consistency. ” Read Katie Rife’s review of the long-awaited The Wonderful Woman 1984 here.

Soul (Disney +, Friday, 03:01): “Coming from Pixar, it is [Soul] also a warm human fantasy. Scenes that are not set in the lively lower world take place instead in a lively New York, populated by characters with slightly exaggerated expressive features and physiques. Here Joe Gardener, a jazz pianist with the voice of Jamie Foxx, enters a visual mouth, ending his life exactly as he felt it really began. ” Read the rest of AA Dowd’s review about Soul here. The cast includes Jamie Foxx, Phylicia Rashad, Tina Fey, Graham Norton, Angela Bassett.

We can be heroes (Netflix, friday, 03:01): The Wonderful Woman 1984 it’s not the only movie available to fix your superhero this weekend. A kind of sequel to Robert Rodriguez from 2005 The adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3D starring YaYa Gosselin, Pedro Pascal, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Christian Slater, Boyd Holbrook, Taylor Dooley. When alien invaders capture Earth’s superheroes, their children must learn to work together to save their parents – and the planet.

Wild cards

Call the Midwife’s Holiday Special (PBS, Friday, 9 p.m.): This year Call the midwife special is set in December 1965 and follows everyone at Nonnatus House as their traditional holidays break down. Sister Monica Joan is rushed to the hospital, Trixie is upset to receive a subscription to a Marriage Office as a Christmas present, a surprise reunion for Shelagh involves her in a deeply moving birth, and the Circus arrives in Poplar.

Letterkenny (Hulu, Saturday, 12:01 p.m.): Schitt Creek it’s not the only Canadian comedy worth a pain. LetterkennyThe ninth season, consisting of seven episodes, is an original Hulu in the US for several years and follows the inhabitants of a rural community called, yes, Letterkenny. The new season will see that the whole city is really involved in sleeping activities, such as movies, board games and discussions about girls. Katy takes her “scorched earth encounter strategy” back to Letterkenny, and hockey players learn about Judaism. Here’s Katie Rife Letterkennylong-lasting comfort.
