Palmer claims the behavior of four officers was “unacceptable and unbearable and contributed to Breonna’s death and the inadequate investigation afterward,” the complaints said. Palmer also claims that the actions of the two other officers were “inappropriate for a senior officer on the scene.”
Aguiar told CNN in a statement, “These complaints about internal affairs have been filed for answers, explanations and accountability.”
“We believe a thorough investigation of these allegations will expose the rotten underbelly of a rogue police department and the efforts investigators have gone to to protect the agents,” Aguiar said. “And if that’s the case, LMPD needs to show that it cleans the house, gives Tamika Palmer the answers she has owed for a year, and keeps the oaths sworn to protect our citizens. These agents shouldn’t lie and say that. it’s good because they are police. ”
He added, “They should not cover up or explain their actions just because they are police.”
The LMPD released a statement saying, “The department places the highest priority on conducting thorough and impartial investigations, and the complaints received from Ms. Palmer’s attorney are no exception. We strive to be as transparent as possible. within the limits of the limitations outlined. according to Commonwealth law. ”
“It remains in the hands of independent investigators as well as prosecutors, those of the FBI and the US Department of Justice,” Wine said. “Violations of federal civil rights under the color of the law, resulting in the death of a person, carry the same, if not more severe, penalties than those provided by Kentucky law.”
“The Office of Commonwealth’s Attorney does not intend to refer this case to another grand jury as long as a federal investigation is ongoing,” Wine added. “Doing so creates a risk of inconsistent results and recommendations and may hinder rather than promote justice in this case.”
CNN has tried to find lawyers and contact information for the six agents, but has not yet succeeded. CNN has contacted the Fraternal Order of Police, but has not heard from it.
