CHICAGO – The Atlanta Braves put Sean Kazmar Jr., a 36-year-old outfielder, on the active roster on Saturday, a move that put a big smile on the face of manager Brian Snitker.
And for good reason. Kazmar has not played in major leagues for more than a decade.
“It was probably one of the best moments I’ve had as a coach at all levels, honestly,” Snitker said of informing Kazmar about his return. “It’s amazing. Going from 08 to 2021, in the meantime, you have to joke, have perseverance, dedication and momentum.”
Kazmar last played in the major on September 23, 2008, with the San Diego Padres, appearing in 19 games that season for his only major league action. He has since played Triple-A for the Padres, Seattle Mariners, New York Mets and Braves.
The Braves also put Jesse Biddle on the left on the active list, called Bryse Wilson on the left, put Sean Newcomb on the left on the disabled list and placed outderder Ender Inciarte on the 10-day disabled list .
